Tennessee Electronic Library - See What's New!
The Tennessee Electronic Library is a free online library containing periodical databases, e-books, videos, and much more. It is accessible at http://www.tntel.info/. If you are accustomed to using TEL you will notice the url has changed. By using the new url you gain access to three new products: EBSCO's Points of View Reverence Center, a Newspaper Database, and the LearningExpress Library. Points of View will be a fantastic resource for you when researching your topics for school. And if you are practicing for the ACT, SAT, GED, or virtually any other standardized test (even civil service exams), the LearningExpress Library is a must see. It contains e-books to help you prepare for your exam as well as practice tests which are created in the likeness of the official test you will be taking. Please contact me for userids and passwords. They have not changed but if you are new to TEL you will need them.

Language Arts Podcasts
Mrs. Shelley Armstrong is using tools our students are already familiar with to provide language arts instruction beyond the classroom setting. A podcast (term derived from iPod + broadcast) is a digital recording stored on the internet. Mrs. Armstrong currently has podcasts on adjectives, adverbs and prepositions available from her Grade 5 podcast webpage. Use these to gain a better understanding of class lectures or to catch up on what you missed during an absence from school.

need something to read?
If you want something good to read, and/or just want a fellow student's opinion on a book in the library, just find me wandering around the hallway and I'd be glad to help you out with some suggestions on what's good. I normally get first pick on the new books coming in, so the chances are good I've read it before. So if you need help, just find me.

If you liked "Thirteen Little Blue Envelopes" ...
Mrs. Ross emailed to let me know that she just finished a book by Maureen Johnson, the author of Thirteen Little Blue Envelopes. It is called Girl at Sea. She said it was "very good." And she is not alone. My two favorite review sources took time to review it as well. Common Sense Media gives it a green light and Booklist recommends it as a "perfect summer read." Sounds like a keeper!
